This project comprises renovations and additions to a unique Shingle Style home situated on a hill above Long Island Sound that was designed to capture the ocean breeze. The design program includes a rear mudroom entry connecting a new kitchen, family room and bathrooms to the main house and adjacent pool terrace. The design constraints include a sloping site, narrow lot lines and a dumbbell shaped main house plan, creating a challenge to establish a clear connection to the main house and landscape. The design solution mediates between different floor and grade levels serving outdoor spaces as well as the formal rooms in the main body of the house. Deep overhangs and rafter tails take their cue from the architecture of the main house.
